The opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors are many and varied in East Devon. There are, of course, the fabulous beaches, many found near some of the attractive, quaint towns such as Sidmouth and Seaton. A trip to the beach is the perfect excuse for some fossil hunting to help keep the children entertained too. There are a number of locations in East Devon that offer boats for hire which can be the perfect way to explore the outdoors and get some exercise.
Walkers will find plenty of attractive walks in the area, including the South West Coast Path and the East Devon Way, which passes Bronze Age burial mounds and medieval manors so could be of particular interest to anyone interested in history. For something a little more challenging for the whole family, there is the Bear Trail, an outdoor assault course with zip wires and tunnels.
East Devon is home to a number of sanctuaries or wildlife parks that care for animals. There is often the opportunity for children to pet or interact with certain animals. East Devon attractions of this sort include the largest donkey sanctuary in the world, found in Sidmouth and Axe Valley Wildlife Park near Axminster.
