Top-Rated Attractions and Things to Do in East Devon

As one of the most beautiful areas of the country, East Devon is the perfect choice for a family holiday destination. There are a wealth of attractions to enjoy along the Jurassic coastline and in the nearby countryside so if you’re looking for a self-catering cottage or camping ground then East Devon could be the perfect area to start your search.

There are a number of family-friendly tourist spots in East Devon to explore. Museums are increasingly designed to interest all ages and to be ever more interactive so they can be great for families, especially if the weather isn’t all you could hope for! The east Devon attractions of this sort often have a focus on the local area or, as in the case of the stunning seafront-located Lyme Regis museum, the geology and fossils of the region. For an extra bit of fun, especially for a family, this museum also offers guided fossil walks with an expert geologist. There are other interesting museums and art galleries to look out for, such as Sidmouth Museum and Topsham Museum.

For something a little different, exploration of underground caves can be an exciting but safe adventure for the whole family. The Beer Quarry Caves are a complex of man-made caves, which are over 2000 years old. If you’d prefer to stay above ground then adventures of a different sort can be found at local theme parks, of which there is a wide variety in East Devon. Opportunities for different rides can often interest all ages. Alternatively, Devon and the south-west have a number of small railways or rail attractions, including the Devon Railway Centre, which includes two train rides, outdoor and indoor play areas and a model village. Plenty of fun for any railway fans in the family!
